Outfit // May

Can I start by saying I MISS YOU SO MUCH I'M SO HAPPY TO BE BACK! Okay. That's done. It was too long of a hiatus and I apologize. It's been said that in order for one's blog to grow, it needs constant love and attention or it will die. I hope I can bring La Vie de Greta back to life soon!

. . .

This skirt is definitely not the most flattering of the many that I own, but I love the 100% Grandma stamp it has. Thrifting find, of course. It's perfect for May because of this spring/almostalmostalmost summer vibe this month has but also because it's kind of an elderly name. Ha. And yay for long sleeves they are so underrated.

. . .

Where to begin, it's been so long! Well some things I've been doing lately: shopping, trying to make daisy chains at lunch (I've discovered that I'm so bad! In half an hour my friend has made two or three crowns and all I have is a pile of mangled weeds), studying like an absolute mad woman, volunteering at the library, bike riding just before dusk, and sailing without a wetsuit (warm weather made official). Plus other things of course, but school has been pretty all-consuming lately. I cannot wait to blog blog blog; although taking a break was unintentional, it definitely made me excited about it again. More soon!

Travels // Lessons Learned

"Everything is gone." When my sister ran from the parking lot into the unassuming Costa Rican restaurant, I laughed at what I thought was an attempted joke. But when my family's faces hardened, mine did too. When it was me running out to our car, that classic symbol of prosperity, I wasn't thinking beyond the typically subconscious actions of moving my legs. A cracked window, jimmied lock, and telephone call later, I found myself backed up against a wall in a foreign police station. Rapid fragments of Spanish were what I heard and a crying, barefoot girl on the only bench was what I saw. In minutes the sun was gone from a beautiful, dusty pink to match the stucco of the more affluent houses. With darkness brought eventual reality: our bags were gone. Clothes. Books. Schoolwork. DSLR camera. Money. It happened so quickly, but there was no way we were going to see it again. But the further we drove away from the situation, the more we all realized that the list of things we just filed for the police report was exactly what it was- stuff. And capital, a vehicle to buy more stuff. Of course, I lost sentimental things, but my memory of them hasn't been taken. Upon returning to school a week later, and relaying the first day of my trip to Costa Rica, one friend's first response was by asking, "Just stolen, or at knife-point?" I laughed, of course, but her reaction is poignant. We are all fine. It was a violation that I'd never experienced before, and being robbed was less than fun. But not only was my family completely unharmed (if a little lacking in attire that wasn't bought at the local supermas), we had an incredible week in a place unlike anywhere I've ever been. No, I don't have photos of zip-lining through the rain forest, of kayaking in the mangroves, or feeding monkeys in the front yard. But we had  a vacation of having experiences totally in the moment, and that is certainly worth all my belongings that are now somewhere in Central America.

P.S. Third post of April?! Really? This makes me sad. Unfortunately, due to a lack of a good quality camera at the moment (see above), I am in a dilemma. I guess we'll just see. I wish I could blog more frequently!

Outfit // Bailey

If someone asked me who my favorite photographer is, I would have no idea what to say. Maybe David Hockney (yes yes I know he's known for his paintings, but type "david hockney joiners" into Google, there is some great stuff) because his work is interesting and so far from tradition, but in truth I don't really know many photographers. But after watching We'll Take Manhattan (hands down best made-for-TV movie!) and reblogging Twiggy shots on Tumblr, I have come to love the work of David Bailey. I love love love magazines, so 60s editorial spreads...just perfect Using my dad's old Canon film camera is a lot of fun, but I think I prefer enlarging other people's negatives and using filters to make them more saturated, playing with the exposure, etc. than actually taking them. Hmmm wonder what that says about my character. Also, this is about as monochromatic as I get. If I was wearing a black turtleneck I would be much more David Bailey-esque.
. . .

Oy vey my posts this April have been so infrequent! I have been insanely busy and the weather's been bad. Excuses. But I'm now on spring break and I have a very exciting week coming up! (more soon) Lots of things coming up are keeping me busy which is half "yikes" and half "yay." Have to dash, I hope you are all doing well.

Life is Lovely // Winter Ended

I took outfit shots a few days ago, but I had zero zeal for how they turned out (not even crazy about this one). So, I made a collage instead! Solution to every problem. Wouldn't it be so cool if you saved every single test that you received a bad grade on, then turned that into something amazing? I want to do that. On la tenueI love this H&M dress because of the black with the flowers; it reminds me of winter but now that's done. Going with the topic of absence, my getting-to-be-superlong hair is also gone! Well not really, I didn't go all Emma Watson or anything, I just chopped off four and a half inches. But it's like the seasons, the length won't last long.

Outfit // Daisy

I kind of cannot believe I'm wearing open-toed shoes. Last week I was wearing my wool coat to school! I feel awfully ladies-who-lunch in these shoes and skirt...and a Dooney & Burke bag to top it off. So I think I'll just go now and be Daisy Buchanan and live in The Great Gatsby, lead an elegant life. In the summer (and I guess much of spring?) I can't wear my Docs because my feet would be unbearably hot, so my outfits tend to get girlier. Either that, or I'm just running around in tennis shoes and cutoff Levi's. Either way works.
. . .

It's been way too long since I've blogged! So much schoolwork. I had a great Saturday, getting fries and milkshakes with friends, making a delicious watermelon-lime juice, and playing board-games on the sidewalk. It had the same carefree, happy-go-lucky vibes that I'm usually feeling in July. The only problem with that is I am so unmotivated to sit down and do things like simplify imaginary numbers. Ack! Well, hope all of you had a lovely weekend. <3
